Intensive A-Level Biology Revision — Focused Crash Course Sessions When You Need Them Most
Need to improve your Biology grade quickly? My intensive one-to-one revision sessions are designed for students who need focused, urgent help — whether you’ve just received disappointing mock results, exams are approaching fast, or you’ve fallen behind and need to catch up. Available year-round from a former WJEC/Eduqas & Edexcel examiner with over 25 years of teaching experience.
When Intensive Biology Revision Is the Right Choice
Intensive revision is not about cramming. It’s about working efficiently on the specific topics and exam skills where you’re losing the most marks, with a tutor who knows exactly what examiners are looking for. Students come to me for intensive revision at different points in the year, and for different reasons.
Common Scenarios
After Mock Results
Your mock results were lower than expected. You now know where the gaps are and need focused, targeted work to close them before the summer exams. This is the single most effective time to start intensive revision.
Pre-Exam Intensive
Exams are weeks away and you need to maximise your preparation. Intensive sessions focused on exam technique, past paper practice, and high-value topics can significantly improve your performance in the time remaining.
Fallen Behind
You’ve missed lessons, lost confidence, or struggled with specific topics. A concentrated block of sessions can get you back on track faster than trying to catch up alone or waiting for school to cover the material again.
What Intensive Revision Sessions Include
My intensive sessions are structured, targeted, and tailored entirely to your exam board and your specific weak areas. This is not a generic biology crash course — every session is built around what will gain you the most marks in your exams.
Diagnostic Assessment
In your free consultation, I’ll review your mock papers, identify the topics and question types costing you the most marks, and build a targeted revision plan. We start with data, not guesswork.
Targeted Topic Revision
We focus only on the topics where you’re losing marks. I break down complex Biology concepts into clear, exam-ready explanations tailored to your exam board — whether that’s AQA synoptic essays, Edexcel data-response questions, or WJEC QER answers.
Exam Technique Coaching
Many students lose more marks through poor exam technique than gaps in knowledge. As a former examiner, I teach you exactly how to structure answers that match the mark scheme — the specific language, the level of detail, and how to avoid common mistakes that cost easy marks.
Past Paper Practice with Examiner Feedback
We work through real exam questions from your board together. I give you the kind of feedback an examiner would — not just whether your answer is correct, but whether it would actually earn full marks and why.
Recorded Sessions & Portal Access
Every session is recorded so you can rewatch explanations when revising independently. You also get full access to the student portal with detailed notes, video tutorials, and additional exam questions.
Register Your Interest for Intensive Revision
Spaces for intensive revision are limited, particularly during peak periods (January–May). Register your interest now and I will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your needs and arrange sessions.
Intensive Revision Formats
I offer flexible scheduling to fit around your other commitments. Below are the most common intensive revision formats, but sessions can be arranged to suit your needs.
Short Burst
3–5 sessions over 1–2 weeks
Ideal for targeting 2–3 specific topics or refining exam technique on particular question types. Works well as a focused intervention after mocks.
Intensive Block
8–12 sessions over 3–5 weeks
The most common format for students who need significant improvement. Enough time to cover weak topics in depth, build exam technique, and practise with multiple past papers.
Comprehensive Programme
15–20+ sessions over 6–10 weeks
For students who need substantial help across multiple topics. Often combines content revision, exam technique, and regular past paper practice into a structured programme.
Specialist Intensive Revision for WJEC & Eduqas Biology
If you need intensive revision for WJEC or Eduqas A-Level Biology, your options are extremely limited. The major crash course providers — PMT Education, Justin Craig, A-Level Revision UK — focus almost exclusively on AQA and OCR. Most individual tutors don’t have the board-specific expertise to support WJEC and Eduqas students effectively.
As a former WJEC/Eduqas examiner who taught WJEC Biology at Gower College Swansea for over 13 years, I provide intensive revision that is genuinely tailored to these specifications. This includes the QER (Quality of Extended Response) questions that carry significant marks and require a specific structured writing approach that other boards don’t use.
Topics Where Intensive Revision Has the Biggest Impact
After 25 years of teaching and examining, I know which topics students struggle with most and where the biggest mark gains come from. These are the areas where focused, intensive revision consistently produces the best results.

Many students see measurable improvement within 3–5 sessions of focused, targeted work. The key is efficiency — working on the specific topics and exam skills where you are losing the most marks, rather than trying to cover everything.
I have helped students improve by one or two grades in as little as 6–8 weeks of intensive work. The starting point is a clear diagnosis of where the marks are being lost. See my students’ results.
It is rarely too late. Even with just a few weeks before exams, focused work on exam technique, mark scheme conventions, and your weakest topics can make a significant difference.
Many students leave the biggest marks on the table through poor exam technique rather than lack of knowledge — and that is something we can fix quickly. Book a free consultation and I’ll give you an honest assessment of what’s achievable.
Regular tutoring typically involves one session per week across the academic year, building understanding gradually alongside school lessons. Intensive revision means multiple sessions per week over a concentrated period — usually 2–6 weeks.
The focus shifts from teaching new content to targeted revision, exam technique, and past paper practice. Both approaches work, and many students combine regular weekly sessions with intensive blocks before exams.
This depends on where you are starting from and your target grade. For students who need to close specific gaps, 6–10 hours over 2–3 weeks often makes a significant difference. For students who need a more comprehensive overhaul, 15–20 hours over 4–6 weeks is more realistic.
In your free consultation, I’ll assess your position and recommend an honest plan — I won’t suggest more sessions than you actually need.
Yes. I am one of the only tutors in the UK offering intensive revision specifically tailored to WJEC and Eduqas A-Level Biology. As a former WJEC/Eduqas examiner, I know exactly what examiners look for in QER questions and how marks are awarded.
Most intensive course providers only cover AQA and OCR, leaving WJEC and Eduqas students without specialist support.
One-to-one sessions are £80 per hour. Small group sessions (minimum 4 students on the same exam board) are £50 per student per hour. There is no minimum commitment — you can book as many or as few sessions as you need.
A free 20-minute consultation is available to plan your revision. See my charges page for full pricing details.
Yes. I understand that students often realise they need urgent help close to exams. I keep some flexibility in my schedule for short-notice bookings, particularly during peak revision periods in the spring.
The best approach is to contact me as soon as possible so we can arrange sessions while availability remains. Earlier booking gives us more time to work with, but I will always try to help regardless of timing.
Other Revision Options
